I spent the first 15 years of my career in technology, usually behind a desk, in a meeting, on Zoom calls, or replying to emails. I didn’t realize I was ready for a change until the morning I woke up to an email telling me I was part of a mass layoff. It was impersonal, cold, and it erased 11 years at the same company without a second thought. That was the moment Krueger Motors was born.

Cars are one of the most important things we own. We need them to get us where we’re going, to keep our families safe, to be reliable day in and day out — and for a lot of people, a car can be an extension of themselves. So why does buying and owning one so often feel impersonal and frustrating? I set out to change that.

I’ve always been the guy getting his hands dirty on car and house projects, and the more I thought about it, the more a small, independently-owned neighborhood dealership made sense. As fate would have it, I was introduced to Mark Weinstein, an independent Austin car dealer for over 25 years who’s now easing toward retirement. He took me under his wing to teach me the business, and his mentorship — and friendship — has been invaluable in getting Krueger Motors off the ground.

My family has called central Austin home since 2019. My wife grew up here and attended UT, our kids were born here, and if all goes to plan, they’ll be Longhorns one day too. This isn’t a business I’m passing through. It’s one I’m building in the neighborhood I’m raising my family in.
